  • Ayhancan Güven is the new Porsche Junior in the 2020 Supercup

Ayhancan Güven is the new Porsche Junior in the 2020 Supercup
    Ayhancan Güven

Ayhancan Güven is the new Porsche Junior in the 2020 Supercup – Porsche Motorsport supports another talented young driver for the coming season: A Turkish native Ayhancan Güven, will contest the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2020 as a Porsche Junior.

At the three-day selection process in Portimão in Portugal, the 21-year-old beat eleven other candidates, who had been nominated by their respective national Porsche one-make cups. Güven travelled to the shootout as the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup France.

Porsche has supported talented young racing drivers since 1997 and helps them on their way up the motorsport career ladder.

“FOR PORSCHE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNISE THE TALENTS AND ABILITIES OF DRIVERS AND TO ASSIST THEM. THE COMPETITION IN THE NATIONAL ONE-MAKE CUP SERIES IS HIGH. THIS WAS EVIDENT IN THE SHOOTOUT AND UNDERLINES HOW STRONGLY WE ARE POSITIONED IN MOTORSPORT,”

FRITZ ENZINGER, VICE PRESIDENT PORSCHE MOTORSPORT

“DURING THE SHOOTOUT AT PORTIMÃO, THE PARTICIPANTS WERE LITERALLY CHECKED OUT FROM TOP TO TOE. WE GOT A COMPREHENSIVE PICTURE OF THEIR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FITNESS AND ALSO TESTED THEIR DRIVING SKILLS,”

JASMIN STEIDLE-FAAS, PROJECT MANAGER OF THE PORSCHE MOTORSPORT JUNIOR PROGRAMME

    Ayhancan Güven

At the age of five, Ayhancan Güven climbed into a kart with the support of his father, who is also an amateur racer in Turkey. At the age of twelve, the youngster from Istanbul switched to SimRacing and competed for the world’s largest team with today’s Formula 1 drivers Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.

At 17, he returned to real motorsport and won several races in Turkey. In 2016, Güven climbed the ladder into international GT racing. The following year he went on to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup France and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux, concluding the latter series as the rookie champion.

In 2018, Güven climbed another rung of the Porsche Motorsport ladder: He took home the championship crown from both the Carrera Cup France and the Carrera Cup Benelux. The following year he contested his maiden season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, run as part of the Formula 1 support programme. In 2019, he again won the Carrera Cup France and concluded his debut Supercup season as runner-up and rookie champion.

“THAT WAS A STRONG SEASON AND A TRULY GREAT SUCCESS FOR ME AND PHILIPPE ALMERAS’S TEAM,”

    AYHANCAN GÜVEN

Family means a lot to Güven. They not only play an important role privately, he also relies on his extended family in his professional life. His older sister takes care of his travel plans and as a trained psychologist she is also responsible for his mental fitness in motorsport. Her husband is a fitness coach and regularly trains with Güven. Relatives in Germany also support the young driver. His cousin in Berlin has managed Güven’s online presence ever since the Turk began racing in Europe.

“IT WAS A GREAT HONOUR TO TAKE PART IN THE SELECTION PROCESS. WHEN I RECEIVED THE NEWS THAT I WAS CHOSEN AS THE NEW PORSCHE JUNIOR I WAS ABSOLUTELY THRILLED. BEING A PORSCHE JUNIOR IS A DREAM COME TRUE. FROM A VERY YOUNG AGE I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO WIN. COMING OUT ON TOP AT THE SHOOTOUT IS THE GREATEST VICTORY OF MY LIFE. I’D LIKE TO THANK PORSCHE FOR THE CONFIDENCE THEY’VE PLACED IN ME,”

    AYHANCAN GÜVEN

    Jaxon Evans

Porsche traditionally supports two young drivers at the same time: the second driver alongside Güven is Jaxon Evans, who was chosen last year as a Porsche Junior. The New Zealander comes from a motor racing family and began his career in a kart at the age of twelve. After the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, he advanced to the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia where he clinched the championship title in 2018. During the 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Evans finished on the podium in Spa-Francorchamps and Mexico City, and will return as a Porsche Junior in 2020.

As Porsche Juniors, the two receive a sponsorship package that includes 225,000 euros for a season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. For 2020 they will contest eight rounds at the wheel of a 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Oliver Schwab, project manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, is looking forward to the new junior line-up:

“JAXON STEADILY IMPROVED OVER THE LAST SEASON AND AYHANCAN GÜVEN AT TIMES EVEN GAVE THE SEASONED SUPERCUP REGULARS A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. IN 2020, THE TITLE FIGHT AMONGST THE WORLD’S BEST ONE-MAKE CUP DRIVERS WILL BE MORE THRILLING THAN EVER. I BELIEVE AYHANCAN IS ONE OF THE HOT FAVOURITES.”

OLIVER SCHWAB, PROJECT MANAGER OF THE PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPERCUP

Both juniors receive support at all race weekends from the former Porsche works driver Sascha Maassen as a driver coach. Like the Porsche works drivers, the sponsored youngsters are provided with sports medicine and sports training-related mentoring from the University of Potsdam. Media seminars and mental fitness training are also part of the instruction content on the path to becoming a professional racing driver. Moreover, the Porsche Juniors will be involved in marketing activities and PR events.

Accra Mayor Cautions Motorists to Obey Speed Limits in the Capital of Ghana

Accra Mayor Cautions Motorists to Obey Speed Limits in the Capital of Ghana – The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah has cautioned motorists to comply with the 50km/h and 30km/h speed limit in urban and school areas respectively as stipulated in Ghana Road Traffic Regulations (L.I.2180) when plying the city’s roads. This according to him would go a long way to help reduce the high rate of road crash fatalities and injuries recorded in the city.

Mr. Sowah gave the advice during a field training session to equip police officers from the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD)/of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) with the skill of operating a newly acquired speed detection device; Laser Cam 4, which saw the arrest of 13 motorists driving above the speed limit to enforce speeding.

“We have a major challenge with speeding in Accra, this year over 1500 people died from road crash; it could be your relative or friend. We came here to test run the new speed guns and we are doing to hand them over to the police soon to enforce speeding regulations. The new devices would help provide evidence to help prosecute motorist who speed. Today 95 per cent of all vehicles on the kawukudi – 37 link was speeding above the speed limits and this is unacceptable. Once the police get the evidence of your speeding and presents to the court, your guess is as good as mine. Data from the Police MTTD for 2017 shows that 70 per cent of road crash victims were pedestrians. A live lost means a lot for us, everybody matter. Today we are cautioning all of you to be responsible and obey the rules.

Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra

The Business Development Engineer for the ROBTECH suppliers of the new speed guns said the device could read speed of about 52 cars in 30 seconds and could capture the number plates of vehicles.

He described the new speed detection device as fourth[1]generation video device with patent features such as auto-track, adding that the device also zooms continually with target tracking, optimization of target[1]specific measurements and simplification of the user experience which he believes would help immeasurably in reducing speeding in the city.

A staff officer of the Central MTTD, ASP Richard Nyarko, expressed gratitude to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Bloomberg Philanthropies for Global Road Safety AMA – BIGRS for requiring the police to enforce speeding in the city adding that the device would go a long way to aid the Police in prosecuting offenders who speed on the roads.

“We don’t have such device to provide real-time evidence of speeding when drivers are caught but with these new devices we are assured of concrete evidence to prosecute offenders,” he said, cautioning drivers to obey the speed limits to avoid prosecution.

The Coordinator for Bloomberg Philanthropist for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), Osei Kufour in an interview during the training on Thursday said the training was also to unveil devices known as ‘Speed Gunsʼ to assist the Police MTTD do their work more effectively.  “Previously, the Police were using a speed gun which could capture only one vehicle at a time and lots of people escaped from the Police because they weren’t caught,” he said.

The Initiative Coordinator of the AMA/Bloomberg Global Road Safety, Osei Kufour, emphasized the training forms part of activities to equip the police ahead of the road safety mass media campaign in the metropolis. – AMA

2020 Honda CR-V: America’s Favorite Crossover Gets Significant Upgrades in Technology, Features and LX Powertrain.

*All-new electrified CR-V Hybrid to join the lineup early next year

*America’s most popular crossover recently reached 5-million sales mark

The refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V, an updated take on America’s most popular crossover, begins arriving in US dealerships with a refreshed exterior design, new and upgraded features, and a new turbocharged powertrain for the popular LX trim, along with standard Honda Sensing® technologies on all grades. With cumulative U.S. sales now topping the 5-million-unit mark, the 2020 model looks to extend CR-V’s position as the best-selling crossover in America over the past 22 years.

The 2020 CR-V goes on sale with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price starting at $25,0501 (excluding destination and handling charges) for the front-wheel-drive LX model, an increase of just $600 despite the addition of Honda Sensing and a more powerful and efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged engine to the LX trim. An all-new, even more powerful and fuel-efficient hybrid-electric CR-V will join the lineup early next year.

    2020 Honda CR-V

All 2020 CR-Vs benefit from new front and rear exterior styling cues, including a redesigned front bumper and grille, and new headlight designs. EX and EX-L trims also get redesigned alloy wheels, while Touring grades get new 19-inch (+1 in.) wheels and tires. The 2020 model also debuts three new exterior colors: Radiant Red Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Aegean Blue Pearl.

Inside, CR-V’s spacious and tech-savvy cabin gets a redesigned center console with more conveniently located USB ports and more flexible storage space, while the line-topping CR-V Touring adds a heated steering wheel and wireless smartphone charging.

Mechanically, the biggest change to the 2020 CR-V is the addition of the 1.5-liter turbocharged direct-injected engine for the popular LX trim, which replaces a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine. For the LX, this means more power (+6 horsepower), a flatter torque curve (179 lb.-ft. @ 2000-5000 rpm vs. 180 lb.-ft. @ 3900 rpm) and a higher EPA fuel economy rating (+2 mpg city/highway/combined).

Importantly, the CR-V LX also gets Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard equipment, extending these popular features throughout the CR-V lineup.

    ADVANCED POWERTRAINS

All gasoline-powered 2020 CR-Vs now feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct-injected powerplant rated at 190 horsepower (SAE net) and 179 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), delivering refined and responsive performance across the engine’s full operating range. Available in front-wheel-drive or with Honda Real Time all-wheel drive, power is transmitted through a sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) with smooth-shifting Honda G-Shift control logic.

    SOPHISTICATED EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR STYLING

The 2020 Honda CR-V’s more upscale and distinctive presence comes courtesy of a new blackout grille, and broad new openings for the fog lights. EX, EX-L and Touring trims get new, round LED fog lights. The added sophistication continues in back with dark-tinted taillight lenses, a dark chrome tailgate garnish and more darkly tinted rear glass. EX and EX-L trims get newly designed 18-inch wheels with a dark gray and machined finish, while the Touring trim’s new, larger 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels and tires (+1 inch) raise the bar on the Touring’s stance and upscale demeanor. Touring trims also get new chrome exhaust finishers. Three new exterior colors come to the CR-V – Sonic Gray Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, and Aegean Blue Pearl – expanding to eight the number of color choices available for CR-V.

Inside, all 2020 Honda CR-Vs get a redesigned center console that is easier to use, with more flexible storage options, while CR-V Touring trims now come standard with Qi-compatible wireless cell phone charging. Other in-vehicle technologies include a color TFT driver information interface (DII) center meter display, available 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, and an available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™. Additional available tech includes remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, an Electric Parking Brake (EPB), rear USB charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment and driver’s seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support, and heated front seats.

    ADVANCED SAFETY AND DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Beginning with the 2020 model year, all Honda CR-V trims come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Honda Sensing® includes Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and pedestrian sensing capability, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS). Additional driver-assistive technologies include the available blind spot information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor and Auto High Beam headlights.

The 2020 CR-V also incorporates the latest generation of Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure and targets the highest collision safety ratings. These include a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)3 and a TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including a SUPERIOR rating for frontal crash prevention with Honda Sensing.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES SAFETY RECALL FOR SELECT 2019 FORD RANGER VEHICLES FOR AN HVAC BLOWER MOTOR ISSUE

Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for select 2019 Ford Ranger vehicles. In affected vehicles, the HVAC blower motor may have been built with an improper clearance between an electrical terminal and the conductive base-plate slot that may result in a resistive electrical short. There were six reports of incidents that occurred in vehicles prior to delivery to the dealership. These vehicles were returned to Ford for further inspection and analysis.

This action affects 17,965 vehicles in the United States and federal territories and 1,544 in Canada.

Affected vehicles were built at Michigan Assembly Plant, Aug. 1-Sept. 27, 2019. Dealers will inspect the HVAC blower motor in affected vehicles and replace it if it is within the suspect part production dates. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S34

    Racing for Anthoine Hubert
    Racing for Anthoine Hubert

Weather: cloudy, 16.9-.18.2°C air, 26.6-30.7°C track

Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Alfa Romeo Racing and CEO Sauber Motorsport AG disclosed that racing today was never going to be easy given yesterday’s tragic circumstances. Anthoine was one of my drivers in F3 and the minute of silence we observed for him today was quite an emotional moment. My thoughts go out to his family, while at the same time I hope for a quick recovery for our Sauber Junior driver Juan Manuel. As for the race, it was an afternoon to forget: Kimi’s race was over within a few hundred metres from the start, when he was hit by Max Verstappen in a very optimistic move, and Antonio missed out on some good points with an accident in the last lap.

When tragedies such as the one that took Anthoine Hubert happen, everything else loses relevance. Today we raced to honour the memory of the young Frenchman: it wasn’t a lucky race for us and we leave Spa-Francorchamps empty-handed despite lots of potential. Today, however, it wasn’t the final result that mattered.

    Kimi Räikkönen (car number 7):

Alfa Romeo Racing C38 (Chassis 04/Ferrari)

    Result: 16th

    Fastest lap: 1:48.753

Tyres: Softs (1 lap) – Medium (30 laps)

“UNFORTUNATELY MY RACE WAS ALREADY OVER IN TURN ONE. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN AS BOTTAS WAS AT THE OUTSIDE AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW I GET HIT AND I’M ON TWO WHEELS. AFTERWARDS IT WAS NEARLY POINTLESS TO STAY OUT AS THERE WAS A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE FLOOR BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN SO WE DID THE WHOLE DISTANCE. REALLY A SHAME AS WE HAD A STRONG CAR TODAY.”-

    Antonio Giovinazzi (car number 99):

Alfa Romeo Racing C38 (Chassis 01/Ferrari)

    Result: (DNF) 18th

    Fastest lap: 1:47.560

Tyres: Medium (29 laps) – Softs (15 laps)

“THE CAR HAS BEEN REALLY STRONG TODAY AND THEREFORE IT’S EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTING NOT TO FINISH THE RACE WITH AN ACCIDENT IN THE LAST LAP. OUR STRATEGY WAS GREAT AND WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE POINTS AND FOR THIS I FEEL SORRY FOR EVERYONE IN THE TEAM, BUT I GUESS THAT’S RACING.”

Tragic death of Athoine Hubert – Renault Sport Racing is shattered at the loss of one of its liveliest young talents, Anthoine Hubert, who passed away today at 6:45 p.m. local time following an accident comprising of numerous cars at Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The 22-year-old Frenchman was competing for BWT-Arden in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Anthoine Hubert was a member of the Renault Sport Academy and raced in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the final ladder to F1. As reigning GP3 champion and member of the Equipe de France, FFSA (French Federation of Motorsport), Anthoine was a huge talent who also brought unlimited energy and positivity to his championship, his teams and the Renault Sport Academy.

Anthoine Hubert’s smile and sunny personality lit up our formidable group of young drivers, who had formed tight and enduring bonds. His great results in Formula 2 this season, including triumphs on home soil in Monaco and France, inspired not just the other recruits but also the wider Renault Sport Racing group.

“OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH ANTHOINE’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY AT THIS TRAGIC TIME. ANTHOINE WAS A BRIGHT YOUNG MAN. HIS PERFORMANCE AND CONDUCT ON AND OFF TRACK WAS THAT OF A TRUE GENTLEMAN AND IT WAS A PLEASURE AND HONOUR TO HAVE HAD HIM WITHIN OUR ACADEMY. HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY OUR TEAMS AT ENSTONE AND VIRY. HIS SPIRIT WILL REMAIN WITH THE TEAM AND WE WILL RACE IN HIS MEMORY.”

10 Millionth MINI revealed at MINI Plant Oxford: The brand’s ten millionth vehicle rolled off the production line in Oxford.

MINI Fans all over the world have a variety of opportunities to look back on the 60 years of history enjoyed by the British brand over these weeks and months. Now there is another reason to celebrate.

The ten millionth vehicle of the heritage brand was produced at the British MINI Plant Oxford where the classic Mini was manufactured from 1959 onwards.

The anniversary vehicle rolling off the production line was a model of the MINI 60 Years Edition and it then came face to face with the brand’s first small car ever manufactured.

The classic Mini from 1959 and the Edition model from the year 2019 then joined forces with 60 other vehicles of the brand – each of them from one of the production years. They are all taking part in a road trip travelling to Bristol in convoy, where thousands of fans are celebrating the world’s biggest birthday party for the British original at the International Mini Meeting being held on Sunday 11 August.

The production anniversary to celebrate 60 years of the brand’s existence bears witness to the uninterrupted popularity of MINI in the 21st century.

In 1959, the genius who designed the classic Mini, Alec Issigonis, laid down a definitive milestone in automobile history. The vehicle concept with the engine mounted transversely at the front of the car along with the gearbox configured beneath the engine, and the wheels positioned at the corners of the car together with a tailgate body provided maximum interior space on a minimum footprint.

The design also ensured amazingly agile driving characteristics and it became the blueprint for modern small and compact cars. Around 5.3 million units of the classic Mini were sold worldwide up until the year 2000.

Just one year later, the global success story of the brand was continued. Since the relaunch of this marque, MINI is the original in the premium segment of small cars. The reinterpretation of the inimitable design, the unsurpassed driving fun that is unique in the competitive environment and the individual style of the brand are not simply generating enthusiasm in the class of small cars.

These characteristic qualities are empowering MINI to continuously acquire new target groups in the premium compact segment. And the next stage is about to be launched.

In November 2019, production of the all-electric powered MINI Cooper SE (fuel consumption combined: 0.0 l/100 km; electricity consumption combined: 16.8 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) will commence – also in Oxford. In future, this will also make electromobility a typical MINI experience full of driving fun and individuality.

Alone in the previous year, almost 400 000 MINIs were sold in 110 countries. This means that the sales figures for the modern MINI are following hot on the heels of its historic predecessor. The models MINI 3-door, MINI 5-door and MINI Clubman are currently being produced at the MINI Plant Oxford. Up to 1 000 vehicles are manufactured there every day. The MINI Convertible and the MINI Countryman roll off the assembly line at the Dutch production partner VDL NedCar.

Peter Weber, Head of the MINI Plant Oxford disclosed that seeing the ten millionth vehicle of our brand come off the production line here in Oxford was a moment of pride for all the employees. Some of them have family members who were already producing the classic Mini at this site. This is a wonderful chapter in the history of MINI and proof of the passion that our customers have for this very special British motor car.

In the run-up to the production anniversary, MINI put posts on social media asking the brand’s British community to share their personal stories from 60 years of MINI with other fans. The huge response made it possible to bring together characteristic vehicles from each production year between 1959 and 2019 as the showpiece for the anniversary celebration at the MINI Plant Oxford.

The highlight of this exceptional coalescence was the joint outing to the International Mini Meeting in Bristol.  The first classic Mini ever built drove at the head of the convoy. It bears the registration 621 AOK well known among MINI fans and the car was followed in chronological order by protagonists from 60 years with the ten millionth vehicle of the brand bringing up in the rear of the impressive anniversary procession.
